Typical Applications
- Cut-to-length of solid bar and billet: cutting carbon steel, alloy steel, and cast iron round bar, square bar, and billet to specified lengths at room temperature—head and tail cropping, and precision cut-to-length for downstream machining, forging, or other processes.
- Structural section cutting: cutting angle steel, channel steel, I-beam, and other structural profiles to length in steel service centres and fabrication facilities.
- Non-ferrous metal cutting: cutting aluminium bar, copper bar, and other non-ferrous solid sections where HSS cutting performance is preferred.
- Applications where large blade diameter is required and a solid HSS circular saw blade would be prohibitively expensive or impractical to manufacture.
Key Performance Advantages
- Segmental HSS design: only the cutting segments are made from HSS (M2 or equivalent); the blade body is 75Cr1 alloy steel. This makes large-diameter HSS cutting performance economically viable—solid HSS circular saw blades above approximately 400–500 mm diameter are extremely costly and difficult to manufacture uniformly.
- Replaceable segments: cutting segments are fastened to the body with a tongue-and-groove system fixed by rivets. In the event of segment damage, individual segments can be replaced without discarding the entire blade body, reducing total tooling cost.
- HSS cutting performance: HSS segments deliver good toughness and resistance to interrupted cutting loads from solid sections and profiles—particularly suited to workpieces with surface scale or inconsistent surface condition where carbide-tipped blades are more prone to chipping.
- PVD coating options (VAPO, TiN, TiAlN, AlCrN, etc.) available on the cutting segments to extend segment service life and reduce cutting forces.
- Clean cold cut: produces flat, square cut faces with tight tolerances and no heat-affected zone—eliminating the secondary operations required after flame cutting or abrasive disc cutting.
Application Notes
- Flood coolant is required throughout the cut to control cutting temperatures and extend segment service life.
- Workpiece must be securely clamped to prevent movement during cutting; this is particularly important for large solid sections where cutting forces are high.
- Tooth form (C tooth standard; others available) and tooth pitch are selected to suit the cross-section shape and material—contact us to confirm the correct specification for your application.
- HSS segmental circular saw blade specifications can be customised to diameter, kerf width, bore, number of segments, tooth form, and pinhole pattern. Contact us with your cutting requirements.
